Dental care is necessary for your overall health throughout your life. Whether you need preventative care or have a dental problem that requires treatment, you need the services of an experienced general dentist in Lakeville. The general dentist will take care of all family members including children and adults.

What Dental Procedures Does a General Dentist Perform?

A general dentist in Lakeville performs a number of procedures including preventative, restorative and cosmetic dentistry. Preventative dentistry includes regular dental examinations. The dentist will examine your teeth, gums and mouth and look for any potential areas of decay or other problems. It is helpful to find cavities early so they can be repaired before they worsen. The dentist will also take x-rays of your teeth and keep them on file so they can be used for comparison if you have any dental problems later.

What are Restorative Dental Procedures?

When you have a cavity or dental pain the dentist will need to perform restorative procedures to repair the tooth. Fillings are the most common type of repairs that are made by the general dentist in Lakeville. If the cavity is deep and decay has reached the pulp the dentist may need to perform a root canal. This is a procedure where the pulp of the tooth root is removed and replaced with an inert material. Then the dentist places a cap on the tooth and it looks and functions normally.

What is Cosmetic Dentistry?

Cosmetic dentistry procedures are designed to improve the appearance of your teeth. Some of the common cosmetic dental procedures include teeth whitening and veneers. Professional teeth whitening takes place at the dental office. A special gel is applied to the teeth and is activated with light. Each treatment takes less than an hour and you may need several or more treatments to reach the preferred shade of white.

Veneers are often made of thin but strong porcelain and are permanently attached to your teeth to improve their appearance. A smile makeover may include a variety of treatments or procedures that will improve the look of your smile.  The dentist can address any problems that you may have such as spaces between your teeth, missing teeth or cracked or chipped teeth.

.How Can I Choose a General Dentist?

There are several things to consider when you choose a general dentist in Lakeville. Choose a dentist with experience and expertise in a variety of different areas of dentistry. It is helpful that the dentist is able to provide all types of dental care so you don’t have to go elsewhere for additional treatment. Choose a dentist that has flexible hours and is available to provide emergency care if needed. A general dentist in Lakeville that offers pediatric care provides dental treatment to your entire family. A convenient location is desirable so you can easily get to your appointments.

Pick a dentist that uses modern, state-of-the-art equipment and techniques to provide you with high quality dental care that is pain-free. You will also want to verify that the dentist accepts your dental insurance provider.
